Fibroid Specialist

Expert Care. Personalized Treatment. Support You Deserve.

Uterine fibroids are very common and can significantly affect quality of life. They may cause heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure, pain, bloating, urinary symptoms, or fertility challenges — and while experiences vary, many women find meaningful relief with the right evaluation and treatment plan.

At Haven OBGYN, we provide comprehensive evaluation, advanced 2D and 3D ultrasound, and minimally invasive surgical treatment for fibroids. Our approach is compassionate, individualized, and focused on your symptoms, comfort, and reproductive goals.

What Are Fibroids?

Fibroids (leiomyomas) are noncancerous growths of the uterus that can vary widely in size, number, and location.

Most women will develop fibroids by age 50. Some never experience symptoms, while others may have significant discomfort or bleeding.

Types of Fibroids
Submucosal

Inside the uterine cavity — may cause heavy bleeding or affect fertility.

Intramural

Within the uterine muscle — may cause heavy periods or pelvic pain.

Subserosal

On the outer wall of the uterus — may cause pressure, bloating, or urinary frequency.

Pedunculated

Attached by a stalk — can sometimes cause sharp pain if twisting occurs.

Common Symptoms of Fibroids

If these symptoms affect your daily life, evaluation can help clarify whether fibroids may be contributing.

Bleeding Symptoms
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Periods lasting longer than 7–10 days
  • Passing large clots
  • Spotting between periods
  • Anemia (fatigue, dizziness)
Pain Symptoms
  • Pelvic pain or pressure
  • Cramping
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Lower back pain

  • Constipation
Reproductive Symptoms
  • Difficulty conceiving
  • Recurrent miscarriage
  • Pregnancy complications

Advanced Fibroid Diagnostics

2D
2D Pelvic Ultrasound

First-line evaluation for size, number, and location of fibroids.

3D
3D Ultrasound Mapping

3D imaging provides enhanced detail and may help clarify uterine contour, cavity distortion, precise fibroid placement, and surgical planning.

It can reduce the need for additional imaging in certain cases.

SIS
Saline Infusion Sonogram (SIS)

Provides a clearer view of the uterine cavity, helpful for evaluating submucosal fibroids, polyps, and fertility-related concerns.

Fibroid Treatment Options

We offer the full range of fibroid management options — from conservative approaches to minimally invasive surgery. Treatment is tailored to your symptoms, goals, and reproductive plans.

1
Watchful Waiting

If fibroids are small and not causing symptoms, periodic monitoring with ultrasound may be appropriate.

2
Medical Management

These treatments may help manage symptoms such as heavy bleeding. They do not remove fibroids but can improve quality of life.

Hormonal birth control
Hormonal IUD
Tranexamic acid
Progesterone therapy
GnRH analogues
3
Hysteroscopic Fibroid Removal
Best for submucosal fibroids

A minimally invasive procedure through the cervix with:

No abdominal incisions
Same-day recovery
Often helpful for bleeding
May support fertility

May support fertility when cavity distortion is present.

4
Minimally Invasive (Laparoscopic) Myomectomy
A key MIGS procedure

Surgical removal of fibroids with the goal of preserving the uterus. This approach may support future fertility depending on fibroid type and location.

Benefits of minimally invasive myomectomy:

Smaller incisions
Less pain
Faster recovery
Minimal scarring
Outpatient or short hospital stay
5
Minimally Invasive Hysterectomy

For individuals who are done with childbearing and desire definitive treatment. Appropriate for:

Severe symptoms
Multiple/large fibroids
Recurrent anemia
Failed medical therapy

Minimally invasive approaches generally offer faster recovery compared to open surgery.

6
Uterine Artery Embolization

A non-surgical option for select patients. We coordinate care closely with interventional radiology to determine if this is an appropriate choice.

7
Supportive Care

Iron therapy for anemia, pain management strategies, cycle regulation, pelvic floor therapy, sexual wellness support.

Fibroids & Fertility

Fibroids may impact fertility depending on their size, location, and effect on the uterine cavity.

We evaluate and treat fibroids with your family-building goals in mind. Each plan is individualized.
